Each committee has its own mandate that coincides with our vision elements and tackles issues from all angles to achieve the thriving community we all like to experience in Strathcona. The SBIA makes every effort to research positive and innovative possibilities and partnerships to support our vision.
Government Relations & Safety Committee (GRC)
The Government Relations & Safety Committee has been working diligently to ensure Strathcona is a safe place to work, live, play and conduct business. Our first priority is the safety and security of our members, their employees and clients as well as visitors to Strathcona. With a strategically planned security patrol schedule in place, members can feel confident with their Strathcona investment. This committee is focused on keeping our security patrol up to date to provide proactive safety initiatives for businesses and properties in Strathcona.
The GRC recognizes the effect that our environment has on the safety of our community. A clean and attractive streetscape is an important component of any vibrant and appealing neighborhood. Through ongoing partnerships with Coast Foundation and United We Can, this committee is working towards safer & cleaner streets. The GRC is also engaged in liaising with government officials & bureaucrats to advocate for and learn about programs in place to help Strathcona become a safer community.
Marketing and Communications Committee (MarCom)
The Marketing & Communications committee strives to attract exciting new business opportunities to the Strathcona area, as well as maintain and strengthen existing businesses. While continuing to achieve existing initiatives such as branding and promotion, this committee has also been working more with the media. Our 'Connections' newsletter and the SBIA website showcase Strathcona and passes on the rich history of our businesses and business owners.
Sustainability Committee
Members of the Sustainability committee work on providing a comprehensive framework for revitalizing the economic, environmental, and social conditions of this neighbourhood through partnerships and initiatives with the ultimate goal of transforming Strathcona into the first sustainable business community in Canada. This committee works towards sustainable development and initiatives to increase the alternative use of resources. Future goals will involve planning the Sustainability 3.0 expo as well as leveraging efforts and funds to revitalize ‘Old Japantown” on Powell Street and develop a tour to showcase Strathcona’s murals.
